Jo Niemeyer "Reuleaux Triangle" (2009/2024)
jo niemeyer's "reuleaux triangle" (2009/2024) is a wall sculpture that references the geometric concept developed by the german engineer franz reuleaux in the 19th century. the reuleaux triangle is formed by taking an equilateral triangle and replacing each side with a circular arc centered at the opposite vertex. This results in a "triangular" shape that has rounded edges. one of its most remarkable properties is that it has a constant width, meaning the distance between two parallel lines that are tangent to the shape is the same, regardless of the orientation of the lines. jo niemeyer uses this triangle to construct the golden section (the main topic in his artistic oeuvre since more than half a century) in a simple way.
crafted in hand painted acrylic surface on canvas and car lacquer on hdf, the hand-signed and numbered sculpture (edition of 15) measures 60 x 52 x 3.5 cm. It is installed by a simple screw or can be positioned on a table. the object comes in a protected crate.
