Heinrich Niemeyer (1900-1991): Construction (1927)
Heinrich Niemeyer: Construction (1927/1979)
This rare silkscreen print by Heinrich Niemeyer embodies the precise formal language of early Constructivism. The large-format work (60 x 60 cm) was designed in 1927 and printed in 1979 by the renowned Edition Partanen in a limited edition of 100. Each print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist.
Heinrich Niemeyer, a Dutch-German Constructivist and husband of Rosel Niemeyer-Catrein, shaped an important artistic dynasty as the father of Concrete artist Jo Niemeyer. His geometric compositions attest to the strict formal language of the Constructivist movement of the 1920s.
This silkscreen is in impeccable archival condition and originates from Edition Partanen, Schluchsee, before passing into a private Basel collection. The work was presented at Art Basel in the year of its printing and impressively documents the timeless relevance of Constructivist design principles.
