Biography:
Augustin Tschinkel (1905-1983), studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and became in the 1920s member of the artists' group "Die Gruppe progressiver Künstler" founded by Franz Wilhelm Seiwert and Heinrich Hoerle (with other members like Otto Freundlich, Gerd and August Sander, Cologne). He collaborated with "Das Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum" ("Museum of Society and Economy") under the directorship of Gerd Arntz, Vienna 1929-1930 and contributed in "A bis Z" 1930-1933 the periodical of the group. Tschinkel participated in the exhibition "Politische Konstruktivisten. Die Progressiven 1919-1933", Berlin 1975. His one-man show "Augustin Tschinkel. Grafiek, Illustraties, Typografie“ was shown at Haags Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag 1976. Tschinkel is an author of numerous books and articles about art and design.
